Russian woman rapes 10 men

Melbourne: A young Russian woman, nicknamed the Black Widow for her collection of spiders, is on trial after being accused of sedating and raping 10 men.

According to Life.ru, Valeria K., 32, a quiet good-looking woman from the city of Tambov, shocked police when they discovered that she was the mysterious rapist who abused 10 local men after poisoning them with clonidine.

Valeria would get acquainted with the men and invite them to her place, where she would give them drinks mixed with the poison, causing them to fall asleep for almost 24 hours.Once her victims were sedated, she would undress them and then rape them, tightening a rope on their male organs to keep them *****.

The men would wake up in the hospital with clonidine poisoning and penis trauma, and remember only a friendly brunette who had given them drinks.

When the police finally identified her, she was placed under arrest, but they presently know of only the ten victims, with one refusing to file a complaint against her.

"It was great," the Daily Telegraph quoted the unnamed man as saying. "I like hot women. I only wish she hadn't use the clonidine on me," he added.

The 2009 Summer Dress Silhouette
In fashion history terms it is now very easy to see how the dress for 2009 is moving from a straight silhouette to A-line. The profile is getting much wider at skirt and shoulder level, and is balanced with a longer hemline.

Observe how many of the dresses on this page illustrate the use of a wider A-line silhouette, drapery, tucks, pleats and bows. Almost all are combined with that other strong new fashion trend of greater modesty at the neckline. Most of these frocks have more modest sweeping jewel or boat necklines rather than ultra low revealing décolleté.

Less formal dresses are the easy A-line 60's shifts, or Kimono sleeve dresses that morph into tunics when worn over trousers.

Asymmetric one shoulder dresses are leading the way for occasion and evening wear styles, although there are also plenty of prom fairy style dresses and maxi dresses too. You are reading an original article about fashions in summer dresses for 2009

Bold Dresses For Spring 2009:-

All manner of styles have appeared for Spring 2009 with both customers and retailers taking the dress to heart. These two dresses above right are by Celine. Both Celine dresses illustrate the fashion trendsetter elements with the loose painted on dye fabric effect, the widening longer line skirt and wider shoulder line.

This is a pivotal change in the everyday silhouette and worthy of note. For not only is the dress now a norm, but it also comes in a wide array of silhouette styles.

Paint Box Watercolour Brushstroke Colours:-

Plain bold colours, or monochrome schemes, produce powerful yet summery looks. Newer fabric decoration gives full rein to the paint box. Painted-on colour using wide brushstrokes of watercolour, plus soft dreamy Ombre effects, create a kaleidoscope of colour yet are blended to art palette perfection.

Floral roses, trailing blooms of sweet peas and daisies combine to create watercolour like prints. Fabrics done in a painterly manner allow whole gardens to be brought to dresses, as shown by the dresses above. Such patterns suit the classic waisted fifties dress so well.
Right - TK Maxx Floral Print Dress. £49.99 Spring Summer 09 Dresses.

The tunic dress above left, by Michael Angel, is in an abstract wet-on-wet watercolour material similar to the styles of fabrics from Celine shown top of the page.

These dye print/ombre/brushstroke/tie-dye effects are so new they blur the boundaries of traditional pattern and prints, the result is to invent fabrications that have the look of hand painting and hand-screen printing.

Blue is an important colour this year, and fused with aquamarine green or purple mauve it becomes like a vibrant psychedelic dream.

The blue and sea green dress right, and which reflects all the colours of the sea, is from Warehouse Spring 2009 Womenswear.
Warehouse Impact Print Dress £60/€95, Necklaces start from £14/€22, Sandals £28/€45.

Prints help to fashion a more ethereal and exotic effect. Fabrics are layered or given additional texture with brocade surface interest and the play of metallic, satin and silk fabrics combine to add surface depth.

Designers are using the artist palette in its full range even in animal prints. We are seeing patterns from zebra to leopard, which are much more exotic than in previous years; what makes the difference is the rich jewel hues.

Bright colour is one of the strongest fashion statements of the season. This vivid blue paint brushstroke halter maxi dress left is from TK Maxx and bears striking print imagery similar to the designer fabrications above.

Japanesque Details:-

Stylised statement is the key to Japanesque detail, for example, print fabrics with meandering motif ornamentation that have bold Ikebana styled flora and grasses like this Monsoon maxi dress. Maxi dresses offer a large canvas of fabric, and are wonderful to display the largest of lone motifs as a bold single work of art.

This dress is part of Oriental Garden, Monsoon's range full of Eastern promise. The collection fuses vintage detailing with the delicate allure of the Orient. It is inspired by the romance of nature, Japanesque floral prints and intricate embellishment all teamed with an uncomplicated silhouette. The 2009 Fashion Silhouette
Cool Blue Dresses:-

So many of the examples above featured blue tones, Santorini blue, bright Yves Klein blue through to sea green blue tones, all make the blue family a major colour for 2009. These dresses below show not only the variety of the blue tone, but also the changing silhouette of the year 2009.

The silhouette of the first blue dress begins with an undefined drapery in the sleeve shoulder area. Moving along the line, the royal dress develops a slight A-line that compliments the asymmetric shoulder line. Next is a simple blue summer shift with decorated neckline, it has an easy flared A-line silhouette. The final dress in the line-up features a green dress with extra fullness in the form of medium restrained pleats, but the skirt has visibly widened.

Citrus Yellow and Green Dresses - The 2009 Fashion Silhouette :-

Even with so many styles of dress available, the most noticeable trend for summer dresses 2009 is for a bold strong colour, with drapery in a gradually widening skirt silhouette. Fashion designers achieve this by employing double layer skirts.

Volume, once a dirty word in early noughties fashion, now seems so normal compared to just a few years ago. The shoulder line has widened and covered bare shoulders giving a fifties/early sixties touch of fashion. This is groomed dressing. You can also see actresses wearing examples of this dress style in the TV series 'Mad Men'.

In the line-up of 4 summer dresses below, the rich green strapless dress shown left has a fuller silhouette with a much wider skirt and a deep inverted pleat. The prom bodice is also higher than in previous seasons. The apple green sleeved and yellow dresses all have draped soft pleats which add volume fullness.

Orange Red to Hot Pink Dresses - The 2009 Fashion Silhouette :-

In the warm toned dress line up below, the silhouette moves from the popular A-line yoke shift, to the red prom line full skirt. This red prom dress is also much more modest than bustier styles of last year. The silhouette moves back to tiered half skirts on pencil line underskirts and in the final pink dress the waist shows 1920 influence as it drops to a high hipline. As a result, skin exposure is additionally much more restrained in the 2009 summer dress.

The silhouette is changing and it is obvious a wider skirt will very soon be the norm.

Prints in Summer 2009 Dresses
Pattern is very important with botanical garden prints, and there are also Amer-Afro tribal prints and animal designs. Brushstroke marks and hazy watercolour blends of dyes that run into each other add a touch of dreamy lightness to lazy summer day frocks, tea dresses and occasion wear. Many of the currently fashionable retro inspired prints examples above are reminiscent of Vintage 1950s Calpreta cotton satinised fabrics.

One instance where pattern is shown to great effect is in the kimono sleeve and Kaftan sleeve. Widths of sleeve and drape vary, but the potential for even greater volume is still growing.

TOP TREND: Draping
The Goddess Draped Dress Fashion Trend - Spring Summer 2009
Drapery focusing on the waist or side waist is a fashion style being adopted everywhere. It's not just bold brights of lapis or sea green, but also a choice of neutral creams, silver greys, expensive bronze and flesh tones. The goddess draped fashion dresses are especially suited to subtle colour ways and they can be found in biscuit, dusty soft rose, creamy putty tones, white, grey or copper gold. These are all tints that imply Grecian antiquity or even 1940s goddess.

Who can forget the draped satin curtains of their childhood when they visited the cinema. Thus many of these draped and architectural styles lend themselves to satin, satin backed crepes, knit jersey or silk chiffons.

This sheen and gleam of silk jersey and silk satin looks at its most glorious when falling into luxurious swathes and drapes and the maxi dress is the ultimate in Grecian goddess since the extra length lends itself to create trains and layers.

The Real Trends
Monochrome, Nautical, Military, Volume & Vintage Looks
Often when describing must-have fashion looks what, what we really mean is a must-have seasonal fad. The real trends to watch are those of Monochrome, Nautical, Military, Vintage and Volume looks. These are all trends that have had a growing impact every fashion season this decade.

Right - A true fashion trend - Monochrome Looks. Dress by Episode Spring Summer 2009, available at House of Fraser large stores.

If colour and pattern is not your thing then there are two options. Firstly, seek out the classic nautical colour schemes of navy/red/white/tan, secondly, choose the simplicity of black and white.

Monochrome is a very easy look to adopt and adapt in the credit crunch. A monochrome garment with the boldness of retro chic blocks of contrast tones like this dress from Marks and Spencer Summer 2009 range creates an optical illusion of slimness.

UK Reports Its First Swine Flu Death

London: A person with underlying health conditions died of swine flu in Scotland on Sunday - the first reported death from the illness outside the Americas, health officials said.

Britain has been harder hit by the virus - known as H1N1- than elsewhere in Europe. Earlier on Sunday, Britain had reported another 61 cases of swine flu, bringing the U.K. total to 1,226 cases.

"Tragic though today's death is, I would like to emphasize that the vast majority of those who have H1N1 are suffering from relatively mild symptoms, " Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said. "I would reiterate that the risk to the general public remains low and we can all play our part in slowing the spread of the virus by following simple hygiene procedures."

One more person tests positive for Swine flu in Karnataka

Now that swine flu has officially been declared to be a pandemic, or global outbreak, health authorities expect to see more cases and deaths worldwide. The World Health Organization said last week that the virus has not become any more lethal, but is now unstoppable.

So far, swine flu appears to be a relatively mild virus, and most people who get it do not need treatment to get better. About half the people who have died from swine flu have had other health conditions including pregnancy, obesity, diabetes, or asthma.

"The patient had underlying health conditions," the government statement announcing the death said, without saying what they were.

Scotland's government said the patient was one of 10 people being treated for the influenza at a hospital. The statement did not identify the patient or the hospital.

It was the first death from the H1N1 strain of influenza reported outside the Americas, according to the World Health Organization in Geneva or the European Centers for Disease Control in Stockholm, which both keep tabs on confirmed cases of swine flu around the world.

The latest WHO report, released on Friday, said 74 countries have reported 29,669 cases of swine flu, including 145 deaths. Fatalities had occurred in eight countries in the Americas: Mexico, the United States, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

Last week, the WHO declared the flu a pandemic. WHO said it expected further cases - and deaths - to occur as the pandemic plays out over the next few years.

35 swine flu cases in India as virus spreads

Hugh Pennington, a bacteriologist at Aberdeen University, said the underlying conditions are likely to have been a "significant factor" in the death because it raises the odds the patient will have difficulties.

"It makes it more likely that they will get the serious form of the virus in the first place," he said. "If your lungs are already only working at half capacity when the virus kicks in and takes half of what is left, you will be left teetering on the edge."

Pennington said that while the death was unfortunate, it was "quite unremarkable" given the number of reported cases and compared favorably to ordinary seasonal flu

Pakistan Has Lost Kashmir Plank: Pakistani Media

Pakistan has lost its Kashmir plank with India bringing on centre stage the need to counter terrorism, an editorial in a leading English daily said Thursday while welcoming the apparent subcontinental thaw after the meeting in Russia between President Asif Ali Zardari and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

'There was a time when Pakistan wanted 'movement' on Kashmir from India. Now India wants 'movement' first, on terrorism,' Daily Times said in an editorial headlined 'The message from Yekaterinburg'.

'One phase is over whether Pakistan likes it or not. The next phase is upon us and that is Pakistan's war against Baitullah Mehsud's Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Al Qaeda.

'One reason phase one is over is that even for Pakistan, the priority now is getting rid of the terrorists. Beyond that is a new model of relationship in South Asia between its two big nuclear-armed states and with the threatened countries that lie on the edge of the region,' the editorial contended.

Manmohan Singh had delivered a blunt message to Zardari at their meeting in Yekaterinburg Tuesday, their first after the Mumbai terror attacks that India has blamed on elements operating from Pakistan.

'I must tell you quite frankly that I have come with the limited mandate of discussing how Pakistan can deliver on its assurances that its territory would not be used for terrorists attacks on India,' Manmohan Singh had said.

Delhi Times also noted that New Delhi's official line on Pakistan before the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit at Yekaterinburg that India and Pakistan had attended as observers was -- do something about terrorism first and then expect the resumption of dialogue with India.

'The message from Yekaterinburg was that the 'primary issue of terrorism will be discussed by the foreign secretaries of the two countries before the leaders of the two countries meet again in mid-July on the sidelines of an international conference in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt',' the editorial said.

Holding that the war against terrorism 'should not be an India-Pakistan war', the editorial said: 'A new kind of dialogue between the two countries is essential. And it can't be a rehash of what happened in the past, in which some optimists saw 'great progress' but which yielded no results.'

According to The News: 'The resumption of greater normalcy between Islamabad and New Delhi is welcome.'

'But while dialogue and negotiations between the two nations are to be encouraged, and have in the past led to steps - such as the cross-border bus services - that help people meet and encourage contact between them, it is time now to fix a firmer goal,' said the editorial, headlined 'Time to talk'.

Holding that both Pakistan and India 'have suffered immense losses due to terrorism', the editorial said: 'They then stand to gain from coming together.'

'But if this is to happen, India must accept it too has made many errors and committed many wrongs that need to be righted. Simply making demands on others while failing to correct one's own mistakes serves very little useful purpose.

'India needs to demonstrate it deserves a status as 'big brother' in the region by setting the right example and, by doing so, winning the respect of its smaller neighbours,' the editorial maintained.

Dawn, too, focused on the theme of terrorism, saying the two countries should focus on the scourge that 'threatens the peace and stability of South Asia'.

'It is important that neither government provide any kind of sanctuary to terrorists operating against the other in the misplaced belief that this strategy promotes its political interest.

'It is time both realised that terrorism is a double-edged sword that also destroys its protector and patron. Hence the SAARC mechanism that has already been set up to investigate and fight terrorism must be activated and used effectively to the advantage of both,' said the editorial, headlined 'Handshake in Russia'.

Lalgarh operation continues, 4 More Bodies Recovered

Kolkata: The West Bengal police on Thursday began an operation to reclaim the areas in West Bengal's Lalgarh captured by the Maoists since Monday even as four more bodies of communist supporters were recovered, taking the toll to 10 in the past week.

"The operation by state police has started in Lalgarh. The paramilitary forces would move in soon," said Kuldip Singh, IG (Western Range), over phone.

While the police began their much awaited operation, the villagers backed by Maoists started digging up roads and cutting trees to stop the movement of securitymen in Lalgarh, about 170 km from here.

Meanwhile, Midnapore West Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Varma said four more bodies of abducted CPM men were recovered from Goaltore near Lalgarh on Thursday morning.

Exclusive! Hamlet and the Naxals

On Wednesday, assailants riding motorbikes raided the villages and killed three CPI(M)leaders, including a functionary of its student wing SFI, in Jhargram in the same district. The victims were all part of a village resistance group helping the police.

Earlier the Maoists killed three CPI-M activists.

TV footage in the past few days showed CPI-M leaders` houses set on fire in Lalgarh and villagers led by Maoists demolishing their houses, seen as symbols of corruption indulged by the communists.

West Bengal chief secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty on Thursday said villagers, especially women and children, are being used as shield by the Maoists.

"This is inhuman and dangerous. The women are being dragged into this terror acts. I am warning those doing these action through media. The local women, villagers are not associated with this. I warn the rebels not to use them as shields," he said.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said that the Centre had dispatched enough paramilitary forces to the troubled areas.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Friday to discuss the Lalgarh situation.

While JSW Steel, India`s third largest producer of the alloy setting up a plant in nearby Salboni, said they were waiting and watching the situation, the industrialists were worried.

``The government should have in place a systematic plan to cope with the situation,`` said Mukul Somany, the eastern region chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

``If the situation persists for over a month it would impact industrialisation in the state already slowed down by recession,`` he said.

Noted economist Abhirup Sarkar said the incidents would affect the state badly.

``The communists did not want to leave industrialisation of the state to free market forces to ensure benefits of the rain seeking classes in the party, and now they are trapped in the process with growing unrest,`` said Sarkar, an economist at the Indian Statistical Institute.

``The state government should have ideally restricted itself to the role of a facilitator by building infrastructure,`` he said.

Lalgarh, which is only three hours' drive from state capital Kolkata, has turned into a free zone after the police fled the region, leaving the rebels to torch their empty camps and offices of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), the largest party in the state`s left coalition government.

A rebel leader in charge of the Lalgarh area in a telephonic interview to a local TV channel on Wednesday said they would strive to defeat ``half-feudal, half-colonial`` style of functioning in India.

``We want to set up democracy in true sense and fight the state terror unleashed by the forces like CPI-M,`` Maoist leader Bikash told Star Ananda channel.

Images: Lalgarh under Maoist attack

``We don`t believe in killing. We only avenge the violence,`` he said.

The Maoist leader, who shocked the authorities by holding a press conference openly with his back to the TV cameras on Monday, admitted their aborted plans to kill West Bengal’s chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

``People want his hanging. We are only acting as midwives to let out the anger of the people,`` he said.

confirmed rape, while his lawyer Tuesday said any further action for his defence can come only after the charge sheet is filed.

"The findings of the medical report confirm the statements in the victim's first information report (FIR)," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VI) Niket Kaushik told IANS Tuesday.

In another disclosure, the official said that a physical examination of the victim indicated she could be aged between 17-18 years, making her a minor as per Indian laws.

"In order to determine her correct age, we are now planning to send her for appropriate dental and bone examination. So I cannot comment anything on this aspect immediately," Kaushik said.

The actor's lawyer Shrikant Shivede told IANS: "He's in the police station for interrogation as of now. No charge sheet has been filed yet. so we'll think of something when the charge sheet is filed."

On Sunday, the maid lodged a complaint against Shiney, accusing him of raping her, threatening to kill and illegally confining her, leading to the actor's arrest.

The actor was produced before a magistrate in suburban Andheri court Monday afternoon under tight security and was Monday remanded to police custody till June 18.

Both Shiney and the victim have undergone medical tests in a government hospital.

The victim had been working with him for the past one year. She has accused him of repeatedly raping her.

The victim used to commute by local train from Vasai suburb in neighbouring Thane district to Shiney's home daily for doing cooking and other chores along with two other part-time servants.

Police say that after interrogation, Shiney said he had "a physical relationship" with the victim. He has reportedly said he could have committed the crime in a drunken state.

He is said to be living separately from his wife Anupama, who has rushed from the US to Mumbai. The couple has a daughter.

"I love my husband...He is a wonderful father, a great partner and most importantly, he is an innocent man. I stand by him with all my soul, with all my heart, with all my love," Anupama told a TV channel.

She also slammed the reports that the actor had "confessed" to raping his maid. "It is a lie...utter rubbish," she said.

Shiney's parents, who stay in Noida near New Delhi, too have flown here.

Asked how they were coping with news, lawyer Shivede said: "Of course, they are shocked. They are not happy."

Shiney is an alumnus of the Army Public School and Hansraj College, New Delhi.

He started his acting career in 2003 with the critically acclaimed "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi".

'Even A woman Can rape A Man'

Anupam Ahuja, wife of film star Shiney Ahuja, arrested by the Oshiwara police for allegedly raping his maid on Sunday, held a press conference on Anupam Ahuja
Wednesday to declare her husband’s innocence.
Addressing media persons at Juhu Millenium Club, Anupam, through what seemed to be a wellrehearsed speech, reiterated that her husband was innocent and that he had been framed because of his popularity.
In a one-on-one chat with Mumbai Mirror she said, “I have known my husband since the past 15 years and he would never do such a thing. He has been framed. But I do not know who is doing this.”

When reminded that witness statements, medical reports and circumstantial evidence had all gone against him, she said, “Who has seen the reports. I do not believe what is appearing in the media.”

When this reporter asked what if the forensic tests turn out positive, Anupam said, “Can the sun ever rise from the west?”

During the press conference Anupam also said that the law was a little biased against men in such cases. “Even a woman can rape a man. But there are no provisions for such a situation in law,” she said.

Shiney’s Blood Samples Sent For DNA Test

Meanwhile, to ensure there is no doubt about the results of the forensic tests conducted in the case, the Oshiwara police has asked the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory to conduct a DNA test on Ahuja’s blood and semen samples. Experts say a DNA test will conclusively establish whether Ahuja did indeed have sexual intercourse with his maid or not.

A senior officer supervising the investigations said, “Ahuja’s blood samples have already been sent for forensic examination. The FSL was conducting a group test to establish that Ahuja’s blood group matched that of the vaginal swab obtained from the victim. But, to be doubly sure, we have asked them to conduct a DNA test as well.”

Unfortunately, however, even as samples were sent to FSL, the entire DNA department of FSL, except the chief, has been transferred out of the city. An FSL source said, “Nineteen people were transferred on Wednesday. The DNA department is also almost empty. We are now trying to do some reshuffling and get some people in the department or else all work will stop.”

What this means is that the FSL report in the case, which was expected in a couple of days, may be delayed by at least a week or two

Yuvraj: I'll Deliver Pies To KP All Day Because I Always Get Him Out

Yuvraj Singh has underlined his determination to deliver against England tomorrow by re-opening his long-running feud with Kevin Pietersen.
Both holders India and hosts England need a victory in the Super Eights encounter at Lord's to have a realistic chance of qualifying for the final stages of the ICC World Twenty20.

It is a stage set for the differing talents of England batsman Pietersen and India's hard-hitting Yuvraj, who enjoyed a battle on and off the pitch during the recent Test and one-day series between the two countries.

Pietersen branded Yuvraj a 'pie-chucker' and claimed his bowling was 'filth' during that series, while the Indian batsman responded by suggesting that dismissing Pietersen five times meant he was a 'useless batsman.'
Apart from one fleeting match during the recent Indian Premier League the pair have not seen each other since, but it has not diluted Yuvraj's desire to try and wind up Pietersen.

'If I get the chance I would love to bowl to him again and I am sure he would love to call me a pie-chucker again,' enthused Yuvraj.
'He's a great batsman and we always look forward to playing against each other and we're great friends off the field. We spur each other on, we both love doing that.'
While Yuvraj's confrontation with Pietersen will ensure a lively bout of verbal sparring in the middle, there is no doubt facing England also raises his competitive desire.
He scored two centuries in last November's one-day series against England, performed consistently in the Test series win before Christmas and memorably hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over during India's ICC World Twenty20 triumph in Durban two years ago.

Yuvraj's onslaught was revenge for all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas hitting his own bowling for five successive sixes during the one-day series in England, although he is not expecting to emulate the feat at Lord's.

'Hitting six sixes is always special, especially when you've been hit for five,' he said. 'That will be in the back of my mind but this is a new day.
'I'm not a person who believes in mind games. Every day is a new day and everybody can have a good day with the ball and the bat.

'There's always a bit of healthy chat when India play against England and both teams want to excel. It's a proud moment to play for your country and you want to beat the opposition.

'Sometimes it brings out the best in you, but sometimes if you're fired up too much it can bring out the worst in you so you have to control your aggression, but I'm very much looking forward to tomorrow.'
Yuvraj added: 'England are looking a good team but we've had the edge over England in a lot of games and we'll take that confidence into tomorrow.
'I'm not thinking about one more bad game or what's going to happen if we lose. In the last three years we've won 80 per cent of our matches and I'm very confident of winning our next game.'
