Official: Microsoft Confirms Windows 7 Launch In October

This week at the Computex in Taipei, Microsoft has announced that Windows 7, the next generation of Windows slated to be one of the world’s most popular yet, will be officially available October 22nd.

This is great news for those who have downloaded and have been trying out evaluation copies of the Windows 7 (above), more info right after the jump…

It was also excellent to hear the news that in addition to the general availability of Windows 7, Microsoft said it will offer an optional upgrade program which will allow consumers to buy a qualifying computer in coming months and upgrade to Windows 7 at no extra charge when it becomes available.

Microsoft’s Steve Guggenheimer said that the company has been confident and happy with the progress that they’ve been making with Windows 7 so much that they will be delivering Release to Manufacturing (RTM) codes to partners (PC makers for branding and customisation for factory installed OSs’) as early as July.

Dell has stepped up to the challenge by allowing users to purchase Windows 7 factory installed on your favorite Dell configuration. This is the fruit of having worked with Microsoft over the past three years in order to come up with the best computing solutions possible, which means most of new Dell computers will have a Windows 7 option come this October.

Windows 7 will become available to the public worldwide this October, on the 22th (2009) and Windows Server 2008 R2 will be broadly available at the same time.
